Song 4: I will sing with the Spirit
by John Rutter

    Information:

This song is fairly bright and smooth and has a fair amount of variety in volume.
It is divided into 3 main parts for SATB - sometimes the ladies sing in unison and so do the men> A large part of it however is in 4 part harmony. The rhythm is mainly a Calypso / Rumba rhythm.

1st Section Page 1 to page 4.After a short piano introduction the Sopranos sing the first section up to bar 20. This part begins quietly and gets louder from bar 17 to bar 19 (loud) Everyone then joins in and sings the first part of the main tune in unison to bar 24 This is medium loud.
The last section of this from bar 32 starts mp and gets louder to the end of the page 3. We get quieter for the last 2 bars.

2nd Section: After the piano introduction at the top of page 4 the sopranos sing a 7 bar phrase which is moderately quiet. On the last bar the altos sing the same phrase but in a different key and it is medium loud. When the altos have sung the phrase the men sing the same phrase in another key and this is medium quiet. At the end of bar 57 the voices sing in harmony starting medium loud and getting gradually louder and broadening out. This section ends at bar 61.

3rd Section: This final section begins with a 4 bar introduction. The altos and men enter together and then sopranos sing. This part is in 4 part harmony and in parts is fairly difficult. Some of the notes in bars 72 and 73 have been changed for the sopranos and altos. On pages 7 and 8 the word we sing is only Alleluia repeated many times. The dynamics vary from quiet to medium loud and speed also changes towards the end. The final line is very slow and very quiet.
