Song 7: The Very Best Time of Year
by John Rutter

    Information:

This is one of John Rutter's shorter choral items. It is sung at a moderate speed and is smooth and has a fair amount of variety in volume.
It is divided into 3 main parts for SATB - sometimes the ladies sing in unison and so do the men. There are however sections which are in 4 part harmony.

1st Section Page 2 and page 3.After a 4 bar piano introduction the Men sing the first 4 bars. The ladies then sing the next 4 bars. This part is fairly quiet and smooth. The voices then sing in harmony with the sopranos singing the tune (4 bars). The ladies then hum a harmony whilst the men sing the melody for 4 bars.

2nd Section: This is from Letter B to Letter D. It is similar to section 1 except the Ladies sing the first 4 bars followed by the men singing the next 4 bars. At Letter C all voices sing in harmony for 4 bars with the sopranos singing the melody. The sopranos sing the melody to the bottom of page % whilst the other parts hum a long note harmony. Notice the dymanics vary slightly and there is a pause at bar 34.

3rd Section: This final section begins at Letter D with a 9 bar piano/flute introduction. The voices come in at Letter E in 4 part harmony. The sopranos sing the melody with the other parts singing in harmony. After 2 bars the key changes. The sopranos continue singing the melody until the pause in bar 53. The ladies then sing a 2 bar phrase and then the men sing a two bar answering phase till the Pause in bar 57. The last 4 bars are sung slower and the voices get quieter to the end.
