Song 2: Sound of Silence by Paul Simon

    Information:

    This Song is moderately fast. It is sung by SAB and is divided into 4 sections. Please follow your music when you listen.

    Section 1 - First part from the beginning to bar 17 at the bottom of page 9. There is a short piano introduction then the Sops and Altos sing followed by the men singing an answer in the next bar. THe Sops and Altos then sing again in bar 4 followed by the men singing an answer in bar 5. The Sops and Altos then sing together with the men singing a harmony below a mixture of long notes and shorter notes. The section continues like this to bar 17.

    Section 2 - From Bar 17 to Bar 32. This is then repeated with the 2nd line of words. It is similar to section 1 till we get to bar 24. The men sing in harmony to the other 2 parts. Notice the Sops have a long note which is held for 2 bars. After that the Sops and Altos finish the first half of the section at bar 32. We then repeat this section from bar 17 but with the 2nd line of words. At bar 31 we jump to the next line (bar 33) ready to sing section 3.

    Section 3: Start at bar 33 and sing to bar 50 (first beat). In this section the Sops mainly sing the melody with the Altos and Men filling in with different harmonies

    Section 4 - This final section begins on the 2nd beat of bar 50. The Sops mainly sing the melody with the other parts singing mostly in block harmony (ie the parts sing the words and their notes at the same time as the Sops). The last 2 lines are quiet and get quieter.
